Abstract
Previously the evaluation of stresses in members has been relatively simple since we have considered stress due to a single force action (direct stress due to axial load, bending stress due to moment, or shear stress due to torque) or to a combination of force actions (axial load and moment) which produce stresses acting uniaxially, the resultant of which may be obtained by algebraic addition.
