Abstract
It is the primary purpose of this chapter to describe and analyse a number of aspects of the takeover activity that occurred during the period 1 January 1957 to 31 December 1969. This will also serve to acquaint the reader with the climate surrounding this historically unprecedented level of takeovers in order that an appreciation of the theoretical model developed in the next chapter may be gained.
