The Elusive Goal: Attempts at Liberal Reunion

  • Chris Cook

Abstract

The extent to which, if Liberal reunion had been achieved in the months after the 1922 general election, the organisation and morale of the party both in the constituencies and at higher levels would have been transformed, can never finally be decided. Reunion in fact did not occur until, with Baldwin’s call for an election on Protection, it came too late to affect Liberal chances in 1923.
