Preparing for the Election: Candidates and the Nominations

  • Chris Cook

Abstract

The end of the experiment of a Labour Government was never far away after Parliament reassembled in the autumn of 1924. After the defeat of the MacDonald government on the Campbell case, events moved swiftly. Parliament was dissolved on 9 October. The closing day for nominations was to be 18 October. The election itself was fixed for Wednesday 29 October. The three parties faced the coming election with considerably different feelings and forebodings.
