Summary

The vibrations of machine tool slides are dependent to a large extent on the peculiarities of the guideway system carrying the slide. This problem was analysed by applying a practically controlled mechanical-mathematical model and through its calculation by an Elliot-computer. Results are published showing design principles for convenient stiffness and damping relations of the guideway system and for suitable arrangement and measured ratios of this system. The analysis takes in consideration the different critical vibration directions at the diverse sorts of machine tools. A brief summary will be given concerning the influencing factors of guideway stiffness and damping.
