Summary
This paper gives an account of how a newly formed division within a large engineering group improved the use of its manufacturing facilities by adoption of improved controls over a five-year period. The improvements involved the introduction of group technology concepts in both machining and assembly areas, improved quality control disciplines, introduction of computer data shop scheduling and inventory control systems, reassessment of time standards and incentive payments for operators, development of better method cutting standards and introduction of new methods of process planning.
