An ideal switch is one which, when it is ‘on’ has no effective resistance between its terminals and no voltage appears across it when current flows through it. When it is ‘off’, it has an infinite resistance between its terminals, and the leakage current through it is zero. Moreover, our ideal switch has a perfect switching action so that the time taken for the circuit current either to be cut off or to be switched on is zero.
