The Study of Public Administration in the United States

  • W. J. M. Mackenzie

The appearance of this important textbook1 offers an occasion to give some account of recent developments in the study of public administration in the United States. There has been in the last five years something of a revolution and this will eventually affect our own teaching and research; but the process is likely to be slow, partly because conditions are different here both in the Universities and in the government service, partly because of the difficulty in getting American books. This article has been written with the assistance of a University library, but even so it can make no claim to completeness, for much of the literature is out of reach.
