Summary
The contribution of the chisel edge to drilling forces was assessed by making tests with and without a pilot hole. The temperature distribution on the flank was also evaluated using temperature-sensitive paints. By altering the drill point shape according to a given pattern the effects of several variables were evaluated, and the results derived in the form of response surfaces.
