Abstract

In recent years there has been an increasing interest in control of machine tools by digital computer (DNC). To determine the problems of DNC a research program was initiated to control three machine tools by digital computer. The system of control was different for the three machines, and was composed of a machining centre with GE control, a milling machine with ICON control and a lathe — retrofitted with electrohydraulic pulse motors. The computer used in this research was an IBM 360/44 situated approximately 1000 ft from the machine tool laboratory.
