Abstract

To find the square root of a number N to any required degree of accuracy, starting with a reasonable first approximation x0. Calculate in turn the numbers x1= 1/2 x 0 + N/x 0 ); x 2 = 1/2 (x 1 + N/x 1 ) and so on, the general relation being x n+1 = 1/2 (x n +N/x n ).
