European Agriculture in the World Economy

  • Adrien Zeller

Abstract

The common agricultural policy is without doubt the most important achievement of the European Economic Community. It directly affects the income and the future of ten million people and determines the development of the whole agricultural and food sector of the economy. In the short term, it is crucial to the prosperity of the Community’s agricultural areas. It has greatly influenced the standard of living of consumers, and especially the poorer sections of society. What is more, it has led to a reshaping of the Community’s economic links with the rest of the world in this particular field.
