Microscopic Examination

  • M. H. Zoberi

The importance of microscopic examination of the fungal tissue in clarifying the taxonomy of certain groups of macrofungi has only recently been appreciated, the diagnostic features of fungi being increasingly based on microscopic investigations. It is essential, therefore, to prepare good mounts and keep a record of the observations made. A systematic study of the fungus under various magnifications will enable the worker to understand the morphology of his fungus. Subsequent observations will become easier when a specimen is collected a second time, as it will be checked against the notes of the previous collection and gaps in the knowledge can be filled with new information.
