The Ramaria genus belongs to the family Clavariaceae which includes some of the most beautiful of fungal fruiting bodies. These are commonly known as the coral fungi because of their erect and intricately branching basidiocarps, which resemble coral. Corner (1950) considered the type of branching and hyphal structure of the fruiting body, and the presence and type of cystidia, and colour of spores, as some of the distinguishing characters among the many genera of this family.
