The English Peasant Revolt of 1381

Abstract

So impressive was the uprising of English peasantry in 1381 that it has continued to be a focus of scholarly attention in social, economic, political and constitutional histories, as well as in general history, throughout the nearly six centuries since its occurrence. Our own interest in it, and our re-analysis of it, stems from our belief that its characteristics are timeless, and that the lessons it contains are nearly as applicable to events today as they are to the time in which they occurred. Some of these lessons have figured in the discussion in the opening chapter of this book.
