Abstract

The subject of speed control is vast, and it is only necessary here to outline the possibilities. A large amount of space has been devoted to thyristor converter systems, which have been the main growth area in recent years. For large industrial drives the choice is now between a thyristor armature drive and a Ward Leonard system with a thyristor controlled field. For low power industrial drives, singlephase thyristor converters have become almost universal. Some transistorised systems are likely to attract greater interest in the future, as development of batteries extends the use of mobile and portable battery powered equipment.
