Abstract
D.C. motors with armature diameters greater than about 600 mm are usually designed for specific duties. For metal-rolling mills, mine winders (hoists), wind tunnels, ship propulsion, excavators and many other specialised applications, detailed knowledge of loading conditions, type of power supply, mechanical conditions, environment and required accuracy of control is necessary to enable motors to be designed for optimum performance and reliability.
