Abstract

The d.c. motor is inherently larger, more complex, and more costly than a conventional squirrel cage a.c. motor but for many areas of application it has distinct advantages which have ensured its continued use over the years. The advent of modern rectified power systems in the 1960s has enhanced its use quite considerably.
