Abstract
A wide range of plastics materials is now available to industry, each having its own combination of special properties. They aid production through the rapid and repetitive manufacture of complicated shapes which would otherwise require assembly from several parts. In many cases, important weight advantages can be achieved by the use of plastics. The engineer needs to know some basic facts about plastics and the forms in which they are available to him, and something of their performance characteristics.
