Abstract
This essay is unlike others in the series in that I have found the division of opinion about forms of government so extreme and the literature so confused that I have abandoned any idea of surveying the major writings on theories and classifications, and have preferred to offer a simple classification of my own based on traditional theories, but in the References at the end have identified the major schools and differences.
