The Magnetization Current

Abstract

In a magnetoplasma the thermal motion of particles at right angles to the magnetic field is a cyclotron gyration. Each of the rotating charged particles forms a circular current in the plane perpendicular to the magnetic field. These current loops possess magnetic moments, which is why they are called magnetization currents. The ions and electrons rotate in opposite directions, but the currents they carry are additive. The direction of the current is commonly taken to be the direction of motion of the positive charges.
