Abstract

All the roof systems so far described have been linear forms, spanning in one direction, and having small breadth in relation to their span and depth. One-way spanning members require that the loads are carried at their ends or intermediately by beams, walls or regular columns. If they receive concentrated loads, special design provision is required, the load then being distributed along the length of the member. For long spans, the individual structural component will probably be very large, creating transportation problems.
