Abstract

This chapter is devoted to discussion of some principal heat treatment processes. These processes are utilised in the widest spectrum of engineering activity, and in order to investigate the more commonly encountered applications in some detail, treatment of irons, steels and some light alloys will be explained. These are the metals which form the backbone of the heat treatment industry and demand the major share of capital plant and expenditure in this area.
