Abstract

The original patents for flexible shaft drives date from about the 1870s, hence they are well established for applications such as portable tools and instrument drives. However, there are a large number of proven applications other than the more familiar ones, and new applications are being discovered continually in conjunction with new techniques for varying the characteristics of flexible shafts.
