Abstract

Expanded (or cellular) plastics are continually finding new uses in a wide variety of industries. Furniture and bedding, domestic appliances, automotive and building industries, for example, are all using large quantities of cellular plastics and as the various technologies advance, further applications will be found for these plastics, both in new outlets and as replacements for existing materials which for technical or economic reasons will be superseded. Polyurethane and polystyrene foams are currently the most widely used, but phenolic, urea-formaldehyde, silicone, etc, foams all have a place in plastics foam technology.
