Generating Test Signals
The prime requisite of any source of signals used for electronic equipment testing and measurement, is that it should supply signals, of known parameters, which are such that any measurements made on the signal, after modification by the equipment under test, will truly reflect the performance of the equipment rather than the signal source. Of course, in many instances, and particularly when dealing with state-of-the-art equipment designs, it is difficult if not impossible to find signal sources of a sufficiently high quality to make the required measurements. Some method must then be found to extract the errors due to the imperfect signal source from the final measurements.
