Abstract

For the purpose of this chapter, sheet metal forming is briefly defined as the forming of sheet, strip or plate by methods which are not intended to alter the thickness of the metal at any point. The definition eliminates what is usually understood by operations such as hot and cold forming, forging or embossing, etc. These are dealt with elsewhere in this book.
