Many names are soon forgotten, and there is nothing to be said for including them in this ‘dictionary’. Who, at the end of reading Pride and Prejudice, has reason to remember that Mr Morris was the agent who let Netherfield Park? Yet there are minor characters who are sufficiently interesting to be memorable; if they are not given separate entries, they will generally be found under the names of places such as Mansfield Park or Highbury, or of people with whom they are usually associated. Mrs Nicholls, for example, is found at Netherfield, Mrs Annesley with Georgiana Darcy, and Serle with Mr Woodhouse.
