Abstract

I MUST apologise for the subjects of these lectures being in the reverse order to their place in the general title; but this seems to make sense. The title should stress the subject-matter of the ultimate culmination. In the temporal order of events the valleys leading up to the culmination have to be explored first. I begin with a deep valley, which is a difficult approach. By its nature it will be, so to speak, the most solemn part of what I have to say.
