Of the great amount and variety of meterological data available, the only table in this section gives a small selection on one topic. This restriction is dictated by considerations of space, and the rather remote nature of the subject from the interests of most economists and historians. Annual figures of precipitation, because of their obvious link with the success of the harvest, seem less remote than most meterological series and they also offer longer runs of comparable statistics than other types of data.
