Abstract

This is a reworking of an earlier play, Where There is Nothing, written by Yeats, Lady Gregory and Douglas Hyde, ‘in a fortnight’ as he told A. H. Bullen, ‘to keep George Moore from stealing the plot’ (L 503). The earlier play was first published as a supplement to The United Irishman, 1 November 1902, and performed at the Royal Court Theatre, London, 26 June 1904. Yeats withdrew it from circulation. It is reprinted in VPl.
