Abstract

In the majority of commercial transactions in which colour is involved, measurement of colour is out of the question, simply because none of the parties engaged has measuring facilities. Either colour samples are supplied by a manufacturer from which the customer may make his choice, or a reference sample, with which a product must comply, is given to the manufacturer. In such cases both the manufacturer and the customer will have to compare a coloured surface with one or more samples defining the desired colour. This is a rapid and simple way of determining colour, but there are, of course, a number of conditions that must be complied with if any kind of precision is desired.
