Abstract

It may seem somewhat of an anachronism to discuss receptor classification at a symposium mainly devoted to receptor mechanisms and isolation, but to pharmacologists classification remains an important and indeed indispensable tool. Part of its importance lies in the fact that receptor classification may be the first step in the discovery of new drugs.
