The Introspective Warrior, 1930–6

  • B. N. Pandey

In the dawn of 1930 urban India was filled with excitement, hope and anxiety. As usual, prominent Indian astrologers supplied the expectant populace with their prophecies: Congress was to have a disastrous time between April and July 1930.1 April was to be especially bad for persons born under the influence of Libra (Gandhi) and Scorpio (Jawaharlal). As the Round Table Conference was to be held (in autumn 1930) under the influence of Mars and Jupiter, a large measure of agreement was bound to be reached between different parties on important issues. March 1931 would bring victory to Congress. The future contained three significant years — 1933, 1937 and 1949 — of which one was to witness the outbreak of a world war and in another India was to attain full independence.
