The Man

Part of the New Studies in the Philosophy of Religion book series (NSPR)

In this book I shall be concerned with how religious belief appears in the light of Wittgenstein’s philosophy. First I will try to give as clear an account as I can of both his earlier and his later thought. Then I shall describe how he evidently saw religion at three stages of his intellectual pilgrimage and discuss the philosophical questions to which his views about it give rise. Before doing this, however, it may be of interest to say something about the man himself and his personal attitude to religion.1
