Abstract
In consequence of the crisis Peel separated the bank into “issue department” and “banking department”.
(There seems to have been a table on the board — or a diagram wh. 1 do not appear to have copied.) (H. R.)
The diagram which Rylett did not copy was in fact Jevons’s Diagram showing all the Weekly Accounts of the Bank of England since the passing of the Bank Act of 1844 (1862). The WeeklyAccount of the Bank of England for the week ending 5 March 1862 was included in the explanatory notes published along with the Diagram. The diagram and notes were reprinted in the first edition of Investigations, pp. VIII–XV.
