Commercial Fluctuations Since 1836
The next interval we have to consider is that from 1836–39, i.e. the period of crisis and difficulty. We find that from 1830–40 was a period on the whole of very great prosperity and there was a considerable rise in prices. The variation of metals for instance is shown as follows:—1
