Abstract
The most accessible part of the mass communications process to the researcher is the performances distributed by mass media, that is the content of the media. Content provides the contact point for producers and audiences. Although this chapter is concerned with the analysis of media content, its title has been chosen to indicate that no a priori distinction has been drawn between what is said and how it is said. The medium and its message will, at first, be taken as the material for analysis.
