Abstract

The question I want to discuss is whether religious belief requires or admits of rational support; if so, of what sort and to what extent. It is an old problem and the absence of an agreed solution may suggest that it is unprofitable to pursue it further. However, the list of agreed answers to philosophical questions is short and the adoption of this policy would put an end to most philosophical inquiry. We should not expect to reach agreement on fundamental issues easily.
