The First Campaign

  • Neal Blewett

Abstract

These dramatic parliamentary events ushered in the longest election campaign in modern British history. The actual campaign commenced the day Parliament was prorogued, 3 December, with platform speeches from Lloyd George, Lansdowne, and Austen Chamberlain. The final pollings took place ten weeks later on 10 February, but active campaigning had come to an end a fortnight before.
