Abstract

Details for the preparations of derivatives are given in the following pages. It is important that a selected derivative shall comply with the following requirements:

  1. 1.

It must be a solid, with a melting point that is higher than 60°C and preferably below 200°C. Derivatives melting below 60°C often separate from the mother liquor as oils which are difficult to crystallize, while melting points which are much above 200°C are not conveniently determined.

  2. 2.

Its melting point should differ as much as possible from the corresponding derivatives of compounds which are closely related to the original.
