A New Generation: The Nations
The passages included in this section are self-explanatory in many ways, because the authors were intent on explaining themselves. They identified themselves as members of a new generation, and therefore as spokesmen of the future in contrast with the past. They were vitally conscious of history, but not so as to recapture the past; rather, they projected history into the future-their future-and future history was to correct the wrongs of the past.
