The Stock Exchange

About 25 million people in Britain have a financial interest in the London Stock Exchange whether they know it or not. Some have stocks and shares and ‘play’ the Exchange to make a quick profit (or a loss); some have steady investments; and about 22 1/2 million of the total have an indirect interest. Those insurance premiums, because they are invested on the Stock Exchange, may well be much lower initially than they would otherwise have been; that works pension fund is backed by Equities bought here; those trade-union reserves, that legacy from an old boy to help his school … Funds from a thousand sources pour into this insignificant corner of the City of London called Throgmorton Street.
