Process Planning in a Steel Plant

  • Chapter
Exercises in Industrial Management

Abstract

A mill is producing plates, the gauge specifications of which are given as 0.250 ± 0.010 If plates are oversized (i.e. their thickness exceeds xII = 0.260) they can be rerolled, but further processing naturally increases the cost of the product. Undersized plates (with thickness below xI = 0.240) can be sold as a second-class commodity at a loss of 4 m.u. (money units) per plate.
