Abstract

The terms ‘education’ and ‘training’ cover a wide range of activities: elementary, secondary, and higher education; formal technical education in advanced colleges; vocational training; part-time, adult, and continuing education; work-study programmes and factory schools. All are discussed in relation to changing technology in the papers in this section. Labour mobility represents a somewhat different type of adjustment to technological change, but viewed in broad perspective, mobility is directly related to education and training as will be seen from the final paper in this series.
