Abstract
The five papers presented in this section may be divided into three groups: the first three which deal with the rate of technological advance in the United States, Western Europe, and the Socialist countries of Eastern Europe; the paper by Professor Sumiya which presents the special case of Japan, tracing its technological development during the post-war years to the present; and Professor Hoselitz’s discussion of the influence of cultural and social factors on the introduction of modern technology in developing economies.
