The Generalized Plant Cell
The organization and activity of living cells has always been a fascinating aspect of biology for students and researchers alike, and information obtained through the use of modern research tools such as the electron microscope has greatly enhanced its fascination. In surveying the plant and animal kingdoms, we see that there are many so-called simple or primitive organisms existing as unicellular individuals throughout their entire lives, in significant contrast to the higher or more advanced organisms which are, almost without exception, multicellular.
