Consideration of intuitionism in the moral philosophy of this century starts naturally from the work of G. E. Moore. Moore, a philosopher of most distinguished ability and very great importance in the history of the subject, was by no means at his best in the field of ethics; nevertheless his Principia Ethica is a good deal more interesting than most intuitionist contributions, and was in fact the most widely influential of any.
