In these years Shakespeare found a patron, a friend and, at length, love. It has been observed that his mind was becoming increasingly obsessed with the theme of friendship and love, and the conflict of their claims. Well it might be : the theme had now emerged in full force in his own life. He was to give unprecedented and unique expression to it in his writings, leaving imperishable traces in the world’s literature.
