The Rose was a heading used first by Yeats in P (1895) for a group of some shorter poems taken from CK. Yeats wrote in 1925 that on reading the poems in The Rose for the first time for several years he noticed that the quality symbolised as The Rose differed from the Intellectual Beauty of Shelley and of Spenser in that he had imagined it as suffering with man and not as something pursued and seen from afar.
